Honda Reveals Design Sketch for New Civic Concept

December 13, 2010, 3:23 pm

For what it’s worth, Honda revealed a design sketch for the next Civic concept, which will make its debut at the Detroit auto show in January.

This will be the ninth generation of the Honda compact. The production model will be based on this show concept and is planned for sale in the United States next spring.

The new Civic will face competition from a redesigned Ford Focus, which also goes on sale early next year, and an all-new Chevrolet Cruze, which arrived in? showrooms a couple of months ago in the United States.

The sketch from Honda, however limited, reveals a sleeker vehicle than the existing Civic. And despite the tendency of automakers to exaggerate the sexy factor in teasers like this, a sportier Civic would definitely fall in line with Honda’s recent design trend, i.e., the Accord Crosstour and the CR-Z. Also, Honda recently eliminated its boxy Element compact S.U.V.
